Advice to families with kids

One event that always ends up being fun for the family is a tree-planting day.  Surprised?  Well, you should come along one Saturday.  You’ll see how many families are getting in tune with the environment while they spend quality time with each other.  Are you worried that your children will think it’s boring?  You’ll be amazed at how eager they are to get their hands dirty doing something so positively worthwhile!

Project Twin Streams is in the business of getting kids involved in the environment, and they make sure these kids have fun doing it.  Based in Waitakere, this group focuses on restoring the Oratia and Waikumete streams.  This in turn makes the area more beautiful and a greater place to live – both for humans, and animal and plant life.  The organisers of the Project have activities going all the time, and they really want young people to enjoy themselves.  There are a number of activities for school groups during the week, including tree-planting days and rubbish clean-up days.  On weekends they’ve got families out with their boots on and shovels in hand.  There is music playing in the background – not too loud for mums and dads – and on big days they might have kayaking, sack races, face painting and biking.  And don’t worry about food – there will be a BBQ going and plenty of sausages.  No wonder they called one planting day a ‘party in the park’!

So, are you interested in doing your bit for the environment?  Why not look into Project Twin Streams and enjoy the day with your family?  You won’t regret it!
